+ Why join Healthy Home Pediatrics?

Do you feel rushed when you take your child to doctor appointments? Do you want to see the same trusted Pediatrician instead of a different doctor or nurse every time? Do you wish your Pediatrician had time to speak with your child’s specialists to make your visits more efficient? Do you wish you had easier access to your Pediatrician when you need it?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then Healthy Home Pediatrics may be right for you!

+ Why house calls?

Because they make sense!

House calls are well suited for busy families, families with multiple children, families that rely on Metro or ride shares, families with newborns, families with children with exceptional medical or behavioral needs, and all families who want a lasting relationship with one caring doctor. And best of all, since the doctor comes to you there is no need to take your baby or sick child in to the doctor!

Much of what Pediatricians do is ask questions about what happens at home such as: what does your child eat, what is your bedtime routine, and are there any home exposures like mold, strong fragrances or dust? How much easier would it be for your doctor to do a house call and talk about all of this from the comfort of your home?

As a Pediatrician and a mom, Dr. J appreciates not having to carry a sick child across town to see the doctor. When her midwives and doula did house calls for her family, she and her husband appreciated the non-rushed and laid-back nature of the visits and truly believe they helped.

An increasing number of patients are requesting house calls and historically, many primary care physicians and midwives performed home visits or house calls. Dr. J wants her patients to experience this as well and is committed to providing this innovative, yet time-tested service to busy families in the DMV.

+ Do you travel to our area?

Our practice is intentionally small and local. Check out our new patient intake form to see if your zip code in our range. As we grow, we are looking to broaden our service area.

+ Does Healthy Home Pediatrics accept insurance?

No. Healthy Home Pediatrics does not accept health insurance. However, having insurance can help pay for services not covered by HHP membership such as emergency room care, specialist visits (e.g. Development and Cardiology), and lab work.

+ Why don’t you take insurance?

Let’s face it, doctors and patients are unhappy with the current care model. Like a growing number of doctors, Healthy Home Pediatrics has opted not to accept insurance because it causes unnecessary barriers on the doctor-patient relationship. Our goal through our concierge style, Direct Primary Care (DPC) practice is to recenter the relationship between the doctor and patient, no middlemen involved.

We know that families spend a lot of money on health insurance and we provide a detailed invoice for patients to submit to their insurance for reimbursement. As long as you have out-of-network benefits for primary care, most insurance companies cover some, if not all, of the cost for visits, labs, and vaccines.

+ What is your vaccine policy?

We recommend all routine pediatric vaccines recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics. We believe that vaccines are important tools in preventing vaccine-borne illness. We follow the American Academy of Pediatrics vaccine schedule. We get routine vaccines for ourselves and our families because we believe that they do more to prevent vaccine-borne illness than they cause harm.

+ What happens if my child needs to see a specialist?

We believe that seamless care coordination is very important to having healthy kids. When referring your child to a specialist we send our referral with our detailed note. If a telephone conversation is needed, Dr. J will call to speak with the specialist.

If you are referred to the Emergency Room or Urgent Care, Dr. J will call ahead for you if she can.

If you are ever at an appointment and want Dr. J to hop on to speak with the provider or just to listen in, let her know and it will be arranged.

Dr. J does complimentary visits to babies in local Neonatal Intensive Care Units to make sure the transition home is seamless. If your child is admitted to a local hospital, Dr. J will do a complimentary check in with the care team or hop on a phone call with your team whenever you need her to.

+ How can you help if my child has an Individualized Education Plan or 504 Plan?

We are here as extra advocates for your child. We can hop on a call with your child’s school. Also, you can use any of your available sick visits for Dr. J to attend an in person meeting at school.
